Description
This 5.5″ cluster from Mt. Antero in Colorado exhibits multiple minerals in a small package.
A feldspar slab has three distinct plateaus covered by twinned quartz crystals.
Then the crystals were coated by a vivid layer of iron, resulting in warm shaded colors with great contrast.
A layer of fluorescent green chalcedony coated three, and only three of the hundreds of crystals on this grouping.
The twinning of the crystals follows three directions of angles that are preprogrammed by the atomic structure of the feldspar.
In a sense, this grouping is all one crystal that has hundreds of angular outgrowths.
